Overview
LangSmith records every step of a model application - the prompt sent, the retrieval performed, the tool called - and lets a run be inspected or replayed against a dataset. It solves the debugging problem that a pipeline is opaque: the final answer is wrong and nothing says which stage produced the error. It exists because that is the normal state of a multi-step system, and inspection is the only way through it.
