Query Rewriting
Reformulating a question before retrieval to improve what comes back.
Overview
Query rewriting generates one or more alternative phrasings of the user's question and retrieves with those. It solves the problem that a short conversational query carries little of the vocabulary the documents use. It exists because the gap between how people ask and how documents are written is often larger than the gap the embedding model can close.
